Wood chippers (or wood slicing machines) are a type of wood processing equipment widely used in the preparation stages of production processes in industries such as textiles, papermaking, pulping, and engineered wood products. The wood chips they produce are important raw materials for pulp, hydrolysis, and engineered wood products. In addition, the chipped wood chips are also used as a culture medium for edible fungi and as biomass fuel in power plants.

Disc chippers, as specialized equipment for producing high-quality wood chips, are particularly suitable for the preparation stages of industrial production such as papermaking, particleboard, and MDF, as well as for dedicated wood chip production bases. This equipment is mainly suitable for cutting small-diameter timber, bamboo, bark, and logging residues after debarking. However, its uniform cutting effect is limited for excessively coarse (e.g., diameter over 350mm), excessively fine (below 30mm), excessively short (below 250mm), excessively thin (below 5mm), and irregular materials (e.g., undecomposed stumps and branches).

The dimensions of the processed wood chips can be adjusted according to the needs of downstream industries. For example, the length of wood chips used in the paper, fiberboard, and particleboard industries can be adjusted within a certain range. Some processing operations also require the production of wood fragments with dimensions of 5cm x 5cm x 1cm.
